Roma Street Christmas Lights
Roma Street Parkland is once again delivering one of the greatest light shows in Brisbane. Enjoy an extraordinary garden filled with twinkling lights and illuminated plant life with the wonderful Roma Street Christmas Lights, or otherwise known as the enchanted garden which will run from the 4 December 2020- 17 January 2021.
The Enchanted Garden
We are so excited that the Enchanted Gardens will be back in 2020! There are a few changes due to covid, including having to pre-register for a session time, but the actual event is going for longer this year which is great news! And once again we will all be transported to a world of wonderment, as the world’s largest sub-tropical garden in a city centre becomes illuminated with the glow of over 40,000 fairy lights for The Enchanted Garden annual lighting display. From hanging crystal curtains to neon butterflies and laser gardens, The Enchanted Garden new lighting design treats visitors to an evening walk unlike any other, bordered by towering trees and lush foliage, lit with the warm glow of mesmerising lights. Once again, Celebration Lawn will offer an area of respite and refuelling, with a number of premium food truck eats available from 5pm daily. The thrill of being in a night garden combined with the ambience that comes from the twinkling of Christmas lights across the lovely weeping willows makes for quite a memory.
Roma Street Christmas Lights
This year’s newly extended program will ensure ample time to meander the Parkland’s twinkling tracks, with four 45 minute sessions taking place each night.
Session times are as follows: 6:30pm – 7:15pm 7:15pm – 8:00pm 8:00pm – 8:45pm 8:45pm – 9:30pm
To attend The Enchanted Garden lighting trail a pre-registration must be made in advance.
A link to pre-register your attendance to The Enchanted Garden will be available here from Monday 9 November, with a subsequent second release of available dates on Friday 11 December.
Roma Street Parkland is a wonderful city treasure, meandering walks through pristine gardens with both rare native and exotic plants. It’s important to keep the kids off the gardens as you view the illuminated gardens and stop them from touching any of the displays. There are some strobe lights if this is a concern for you. It is pram and wheelchair friendly.
To ensure public safety, several COVID-Safe measures will be in place during The Enchanted Garden. These measures are per the Queensland Government’s COVID-Safe Events Framework and Checklist and include a mandatory free pre-registration process. there will be no tickets available at the gate.
Getting to Roma Street Parkland
There is limited parking at Roma Street Parkland and even less so over the busy Christmas period. It would be wise to consider making a big family night of it and catching public transport (we will give you some additional ideas below on how you can fill your night with other Christmas fun). If you do wish to drive then you may want to try booking a car space via secure parking to ensure you have a park somewhere in the city.
Other Christmas activities you could do in the city
Each year, Brisbane City is literally a hive of Christmas activity. In previous years Brisbane families have been able to
- Walk through King George Square and marvel at the incredible Brisbane City Christmas Tree
- Watch the City Hall Lights come alight every 15 minutes at night, as part of the Gold Lotto City Hall Lights.
- Attend the South Bank Christmas Markets each evening so everyone could buy and gift local!
- Take the kids to see the Myer Christmas Windows, located in the Queen Street Mall.
While we will have to wait a little bit longer for the rest of the Christmas events to be released for 2020, keep an eye on our calendar and website as we get closer to Christmas and we will keep you updated.
Christmas traditions and building memories with your children will always matter far more than the gifts received. So put aside an afternoon and evening and make an adventure out it. Plan it out and get them involved and enjoy making memories in Brisbane with your kids. We hope you love the Roma Street Christmas Lights as much as we do and if you have any feedback about the Enchanted Garden we would love to hear about it below in the comments.
