QPAC’s Creative Fusions July 2019 holiday program
QPAC’s Creative Fusions is an inspiring three day music-making program for participants aged 10 to 100 years that fuses diverse musical and cultural styles. Creative Fusions is for musicians of all levels of experience to share a passion for music, develop new skills, and perform alongside professional role models.
What is Creative Fusions?
Led by Dr Anthony Garcia and organisation Sounds Across Oceans, and featuring a team of experienced Queensland teaching artists, Creative Fusions is an intercultural workshop process that is designed to foster an ethos of self-expression and experimentation. This is an inclusive program that is all about fusing music across cultures and styles, so, no matter what your instrument – from Chinese zither or African Djembe, to jazz guitar, classical violin, or didgeridoo – you will be able to immerse yourself in three days of music-making heaven where you will learn how to jam in groups, create new sounds and songs, and learn about other cultures and styles.
A Creative Fusion of younger and older musicians
Creative Fusions provides a safe, supervised environment for young musicians to create together, while also inviting older community musicians to also be part of the music-making process. Come on your own or come with a relative or friend. It’s intercultural and intergenerational!
Participants aged under 18 years will be supervised by a staff member at all times during the program, including lunch breaks. Additionally, all staff and volunteers involved in delivering the program will have a Blue Card and will abide by a code of practice as set out by QPAC and SAO. Participants aged under 18 years need to be signed in and out of the venue by an authorised parent or guardian. There is however the option for parents/guardians to pre-authorise the participant to travel on their own to and from the venue. You will be sent further information about this following payment
The 3 day Creative Fusions program will culminate in a performance on the Friday night (5th July), showcasing original compositions and fresh arrangements developed throughout the learning journey, and giving participants the opportunity to perform for family and friends.
