School holidays for Brisbane Kids aged 8-16 years of age just got a little more exciting with the release of the ever-popular school holiday workshops – Story Lab at State Library of Queensland. These amazing workshops combine the creativity of storytelling with technology to create unique and interesting workshops that kids scramble to attend. There is so much to choose from, and, no matter what your Brisbane Kid is interested in, Story Lab at State Library have them covered. Offering a jam packed program full of  gaming, robotics, engineering, cartooning and manga, plus brand new workshops in Ozobot, Unity 3D, zines, blogging and more, the best bit is that most of the workshops allow attendees to keep their creations when they go home.

In January 2016, from the 4th-24th, Holiday Fun at State Library of Queensland includes a Puppet Party where kids’ imaginations can run wild and they can have a tonne of fun creating their very own puppet to take home and continue to play with. The program offers a great range of walk-in and pre-booked craft activities, live entertainment and even movie screenings; allowing kids to unleash their inner artist, storyteller and performer as they party with puppets.

SHAFT | School Holiday Activities for Teenagers

Shaft is a school holiday program for teenagers run by the Moreton Bay Regional Council. Teens can learn to play golf, go indoor rock climbing and mountain biking or learn some new skill at a circus and aerial workshop. There are over 25 classes to choose from each holiday on their program and the best bit is they all cost between $2 and $10.


Chill Out

Chill Out is one of Brisbane’s most popular youth programs with a great variety of free and low-cost recreation activities. Brisbane City Council coordinates the events targeted specifically to young people between 10-17 years old. Activities include skateboarding, putt putt, acting workshops, kayak games, film production, art and craft workshops and much more.

Krank is a school holiday program for Logan residents aged 13-17 years that is jam packed with free and low cost activities and classes. It’s a great way to meet new people and have fun as you participate in adventure sports, arts and crafts, multimedia, music and physical recreation. Krank encourages inclusion of all young people and also offers activities designed specifically for young people living with a disability.

Active Breaks

Active Breaks is a free holiday program run by Ipswich City Council and Coolsports for Ipswich kids aimed at getting kids out and active during the school holidays. The program offers a range of sports each holidays including martial arts, trampolining, dance, hockey, little athletics and much more. The program is suitable for kids aged 5-17 years and also caters for kids with special needs.

Nature Breaks is a free holiday program run by Ipswich City Council aimed at introducing families to a nature based activities including canoeing, hiking and learning about flora and fauna. EnviroEd is another of Ipswich City Council’s free holiday workshops that takes place in the Queens Park Environmental Education Centre, and includes interesting topics, craft activities, special guest speakers, shows and activities; all with an environmental focus.
