Summer 2019/2020 Movie Releases
Release Date: 28 November
Elsa may have feared her powers were too much for the world in Frozen, however, Frozen II sees Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, Sven and Elsa set off on a dangerous but remarkable journey where this time around Elsa must hope that her powers are enough to save the kingdom.
The Review: After six very long years, the sequel to Frozen finally arrives in Australian cinemas! We were excited to attend a preview screening this afternoon and have to say that Frozen 2 more than makes up for the wait. Delving into the history of Arendelle and their own family roots, Elsa and Anna must work together to create harmony within the land by finding out why the spirits of water, air, fire and earth are unhappy. This is a gorgeous story, full of laughs for parents and kids alike (Olaf never fails to entertain), and it’s fantastic to see that Disney have maintained the strength of character in the heroines – in fact, they are even more individually inspirational in the second installment. I saw the movie with two enthusiastic, long-term Frozen fans aged 13 & 14, along with my 10 year old daughter. All three of them loved the movie and agreed that the new song from the film, ‘Into The Unknown’, is set to be the massive hit (and every bit the earworm) that ‘Let It Go’ became after the first release. Frozen 2 is a must-see for all Disney fans, with plenty to enjoy for both boys and girls, kids and adults.

The Addams Family
Release Date: 5 December
They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, and they’re back on the big screen and moving into a new neighbourhood in this comedy that redefines what it means to be a good neighbour and promises to have everyone clicking their fingers.
The Review: The Addams Family pays tribute to the original Addams Family comics written in the 1930s. The 2019 animated movie not only remains true to the characters created by Charles Addams, but also manages to modernise the story for today’s audience. Whilst mums and dads will fondly remember the TV series and the movies from the 90s, this reboot introduces the entire family to a new generation. Exploring messages of acceptance and loyalty, The Addams Family is full of laughs for kids and adults alike and is sure to be a hit these school holidays.

Playmobil: The Movie
Release Date: 12 December
When her younger brother Charlie unexpectedly disappears into the magical, animated universe of PLAYMOBIL®, unprepared Marla must go on a quest of a lifetime to bring him home. As she sets off on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds, Marla teams up with some unlikely and heroic new friends – the smooth-talking food truck driver Del, the dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher, a wholehearted misfit robot, an extravagant fairy-godmother and many more.
Through their vibrant adventure, Marla and Charlie realize that no matter how life plays out, you can achieve anything when you believe in yourself!
Directed by LINO DESALVO – Head of Animation on Frozen, Supervising Animator on Tangled & Bolt. The film features Adam Lambert, Meaghan Trainor, Daniel Radcliffe & Anya Taylor Joy.
The Review: There were some tears (from me) in the opening scenes, though the sentiment seemed to be lost on the young ones. The screen was filled with Vikings, pirates, flying creatures and dinosaurs, and of course the two main ‘klicky’s,’ siblings Marla and Charlie. Famous voices behind the Playmobil figures included Adam Lambert and Meghan Trainor, both managing to squeeze in a song. Even Daniel Radcliffe played a part, being the voice for the suave secret agent, Rex Dasher. Miss five and Master six both agreed the movie was good and I would say definitely aimed at school age children, even if they have never heard of the line of toys which originated in Germany during the 1970’s.

Jumanji: The Next Level
Release Date: 26 December
The whole gang is forced to return to Jumanji in order to rescue one of their own, but, as is expected from Jumanji, nothing is easy and they are forced to conquer hot desert and snowy mountains in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.
The Review: The highly anticipated sequal to Jumanji The Next Level has finally arrived in Australian cinemas and it may just be the must watch Summer holiday movie for Brisbane Kids! Jumanji The Next Level, sees the return of the same avatars and character from the last movie, but introduces two new players as everyone is transported into the video game they thought had been destroyed. With laughs and action from start to finish, it’s worth seeing on the big screen for its amazing special effects and spectacular scenery. While on the surface Jumanji The Next Level seems like an action-packed family comedy adventure, under the surface are deeper messages about the importance of friendship, family, and living your life to its fullest. Master 12 said that while he loved the movie and thought the new characters were the funniest ones, he didn’t love it quite as much as the first movie in the series. That being said, we are sure that tweens, teens, adults and brave younger Brisbane Kids will love Jumanji The Next Level. Just a few tips- there are quite a few references to Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle so it is worth watching that movie first (although not completely necessary), there is some mild swearing in the movie, if you have a phobia of monkeys maybe this movie isn’t for you and be prepared for Jumanji 3!

Angry Birds 2
Release Date: 12 September 2019
Red, Chuck, Bomb and the rest of their feathered friends are surprised when a green pig suggests that they put aside their differences and unite to fight a common threat. Aggressive birds from an island covered in ice are planning to use an elaborate weapon to destroy the fowl and swine way of life. After picking their best and brightest, the birds and pigs come up with a scheme to infiltrate the island, deactivate the device and return to their respective paradises intact.
The Review: We were very fortunate to attend the premiere of The Angry Birds Movie 2 at Garden City over the weekend – we are BIG Angry Birds fans, so everyone was thrilled to get a sneak peek! This is another franchise where the sequel is better than the original (must be the year for it!). It had more action and more laughs (despite the original being pretty funny itself!). The hatchlings and Silver provided lots of laughs – in fact, there was laughter through almost the entire movie. The new characters complimented the old perfectly, although my 12 yo daughter was the only one to appreciate the cameos by Nicki Minaj, JoJo Siwa and Colleen Ballinger (I had to google that last one!). The Pigs and the Birds prove to be a great team against the mutual threat of Eagles and the superweapon threatening their homes. The story was quite predictable, but still entertaining and children of all ages enjoyed themselves—from toddlers to teenagers and their parents—making it a great movie to book in for the upcoming holidays! WARNING: There is some mild coarse language from the hatchlings that parents might have to be wary of, but it’s quite mild.

Dreamworks’ Abominable follows the epic adventures of teenage friends Yi, Jin, and Peng, and their new ‘friend’ Everest, a magical yeti who’s a long way from home. Embarking on a quest to reunite him with his family, they are each forced to face their fears.
The Review: We were so lucky to be invited along yesterday to Event Cinemas Garden City to see the premiere screening of Abominable! With Everest choc tops and melted snow drinks we watched the most beautiful we have ever seen! DreamWorks and Universal have a hit on their hands which has the perfect mix of breathtaking animation, laughs, tears, adventure and a message about the importance of family and home. We gave it a 9/10 as it is the perfect family movie for the spring school holidays! Make sure you check it out when it hits cinemas and we dare you not to fall in love with Everest!

Winter 2019 Movie Releases
The theme for Winter seems to be sequels and remakes which is great new for fans of Toy Story, Secret Life of Pets and the Lion King. Of course, there is a new Marvel movie release too.
Toy Story 4
Release Date: 20 June 2019
Enjoy the final installment of Toy Story where Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody’s slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realize that they’re worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy.
The Review: After 9 years holding our collective breath, the next Toy Story installment, Toy Story 4, comes out in cinemas this Thursday! We had a sneak peek at a preview screening last night and let’s just say it was well worth the wait! Having grown up watching the first three Toy Story movies repeatedly, our Brisbane Kids were joyful at re-discovering some well-known friends, but also told us how much they loved the new characters in the fourth installment. We have to say that we developed a soft spot for the slightly insecure stuntman Duke Caboom (voiced by Keanu Reeves), and laughed out loud many times at the antics of sideshow prize toys Ducky and Bunny.
We’re pleased to say that Toy Story 4 lived up to all of our expectations. The movie tugs at the heartstrings and appeals to parents as much as kids (as has come to be expected with Disney Pixar films) and is not to be missed!

The Secret Life of Pets 2
Release Date: 20 June 2019
The Secret Life of Pets 2 sees everyone’s favourite pets return, however there are a few changes since last time we saw them! Max the terrier and Duke must cope with some major life changes when their owner gets married and has a baby. When the family takes a trip to the countryside, nervous Max has numerous run-ins with canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes and a scary turkey. Luckily for Max, he soon catches a break when he meets Rooster, a gruff farm dog who tries to cure the lovable pooch of his neuroses. Meanwhile, Snowball and his new friend Daisy are trying to rescue a tiger cub who is trapped against his will in a circus.
The Review: We were lucky enough to catch a sneak preview of the Secret Life Of Pets 2 along with 10 other lucky Brisbane Kids families! We have to start off by saying that this is one sequel that is better than the original movie and I loved it more than I thought I would! So many more laughs, so many great characters and a much better story line! In the Secret Life of Pets 2, Max and Duke provide the heart warming moments and story line as they show the lovely bond that develops between child and their pet. Snowball by far provides the most laughs as the lovable bunny that thinks he is a superhero, and proves his value when, along with his new friends Daisy, he takes on the evil circus owner to free a tiger cub. The cinema erupted in laughter at various points throughout the movie and our Brisbane Kids gave it the big thumbs up! It’s a great movie the whole family can watch together these school holidays that will make you want to go home and give your pets a big hug….and question what they have been doing at home while you were all out watching the movie!
