This is a fun colour discovery and guessing game. Challenge your child to guess what colour each ball will be. See their face light up as they uncover the hidden colour as they play with this surprise colour play dough.

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • ½ cup salt
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Food colouring in various colours

Step 1

Mix all dry ingredients together in a saucepan.

Step 2

Add water and vegetable oil to dry ingredients.

Step 3

Whisk before heating as this will help remove any lumps from the mixture.

Step 4

Cook over medium heat stirring until it becomes a thick ball.

Step 5

Remove from the heat and knead the dough on a clean surface. The dough will be very hot so be careful!

Step 6

Roll out evenly sized balls.

Step 7

Create a small well inside each ball and drop 3-5 drops of food colouring into the middle.

Step 8

Cover over the well so the ball is complete and no colour can be seen.

Step 9

Let your child discover the hidden colour by squashing and kneading the ball of dough.

Step 10

Store in an air tight container.
