Riverdale Park in Meadowbrook | Huge Riverside Park

Riverdale Park boat playground

Riverdale Park in Meadowbrook is a very large park with many large open spaces for kicking a ball, plenty of tracks for walking or riding bikes, river access for fishing, a large duck lagoon and 3 separate playgrounds.

Riverdale Park – The Fun

The playground spaces at Riverdale Park include a smaller children’s playground, a boat themed playground with ride on equipment, and a parkour area with half-court basketball to keep those tweens and teens entertained. The older playground towards the river end of the park has a small climbing net, swings and other play equipment for the smaller children. This area of the park is well shaded and has some gazebos and wood BBQs. The boat themed play space comes complete with ship, swings, flying fox and pedal bikes on tracks. There are plenty of gazebos, toilets and gas BBQs at this end of the park. Near to the ship playground is the “tween/teen” playground. It is a parkour designed playground for tweens and teens to run, jump and swing from. This area also has a half-court basketball court. Each of the playgrounds is quite far away from the next and the playground down by the river is not visible from the parkour or boat playground.

There are three large grassed areas within the park that are perfect for a picnic or for kicking a ball or playing footy. There is fenced and gated river access and a small bridge and pontoon connect you to the river for a spot of fishing. There is also a large duck lagoon with gazebos and a walking track around it.

Despite the endless concrete walking paths that connect the areas of this park, the standout is the walking track through the bushland which is approximately 1km in length. The path takes you through dense trees, past another lagoon and over a lovely little footbridge before winding along the riverside. It’s a lovely stroll and great for kids riding their bikes.

For those after a bit of fitness, the park has a plentiful supply of gym equipment, located along the river side walking track and winding up towards the dog park. There are two fenced dog enclosures at the top end of the park near the entrance; set well away from other areas of the park. One enclosure is for larger dogs and the other for smaller dogs.

Imagination Factor

Riverdale Park is the perfect spot to let Brisbane Kids’ imaginations roam free. The boat theme is well suited to little pirates sailing the high seas, whilst the other playground is more open to allow kids to create their own adventure. The riverside location of Riverdale Park is perfect for fishing. The bushwalks are also just the right length for families to explore the natural setting and try to spot some wildlife.

Special Needs

The park has plenty of shade, quite a few gazebos and has both wood BBQs (in the area adjacent to the river) and gas BBQs in the other section. Riverdale Park does have toilet facilities. The park has plenty of car parking onsite, but on busy weekends and public holidays it can be extremely busy.  If you are after a gazebo or BBQ shelter, you will need to arrive very early, however there are plenty of shaded grassed areas to spread out a picnic rug.
