Physics Observatory at QUT The Cube: Physics Fun Day

Kicking off the school holiday program at Physics Observatory at QUT The Cube is an exciting day filled with Physics-inspired workshops. At the Physics Fun Day, an engaging range of activities will include live science shows by Street Science, Hula Hooping by Vulcana Women’s Circus, Physics 101 workshops, and the chance to play a 3D flight simulator game! You’ll also be able to join one of the many activities from the holiday program.

Time: 10am – 4pm

Where: The Cube, Science and Engineering Centre, QUT

Ages: 3 – 12

Physics Observatory at QUT The Cube

Physics Observatory Physics Fun Day at QUT The Cube program:

  • Hula Hooping: 10.00am – 2.00pm – Discover the force, motion and friction at play whilst spinning a hula-hoop around your waist in this playful circus class.
  • Street Science: 11.0am – 1.00pm – Explore the science of light and sound with Science Steve in this explosive and funny 30 minute show. Bookings required.
  • Space Flight: 10.00am – 2.00pm – Launch your own spacecraft into the far reaches of the solar system in the realistic 3D space flight simulator game, Orbiter.
  • Physics 101: 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00pm, 1.00pm, 2.00pm – Have your physics questions answered by QUT Physics Society in this fun-filled demonstration. Each demonstrations runs for 30 minutes.

Physics Observatory at QUT The Cube – Summer Holiday Program

The Physics Observatory Summer Holiday Program celebrates the launch of the new Physics Observatory, a game-like environment where you can learn about physics through interactive activities. The holiday program will have kids learning through play with activities such as the Physics Wiz Treasure Hunt, Ball Run, and paper plane crafts. Then take some time out to watch the science short and animated film festival and screenings by MinutePhysics.

When: Friday 6th – Sunday 15th January

Time: 10am – 4pm daily

Where: The Cube, Science and Engineering Centre, QUT

Ages: 3 – 12

Daily activities at Physics Observatory at QUT The Cube include:

  • Physics Observatory Digital Project: Learn about key historical figures and their experiments, as you play through different scenarios to discover key principles of physics.
  • Take to the sky with paper planes: Fold your own paper planes and watch as gravitational forces and aerodynamics affect the plane’s flight.
  • Ball Run: Design your own ball run using everyday materials and see how fast the ball can travel.
  • Physics Wiz Treasure Hunt: Grab a map and search for hidden elements around the Observatory.
  • Little Big Shots: Enjoy specially curated science shorts and animations from Australia’s major annual travelling children’s film festival.
  • MinutePhysics: Watch in awe as cool physics is explained in minutes with time-lapsed drawings!
