Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk 2016
As one of Australia’s largest maternity services, Mater is paving the way in giving Queensland’s tiniest patients the best possible start to life. From pregnancy to birth and infancy, Mater supports families and cares for thousands of seriously ill and premature babies – affectionately known as Mater Little Miracles.
Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk is a magical family event that raises funds for this extremely worthy cause. It’s much more than just a charity walk; the Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk is a fantastic day out for the whole family, with attractions, performances, food and fun!
Last year, more than 3,000 people took part in the huge day of family fun, and this year’s event is set to be even bigger and better! Plus, if you sign up before midnight on Sunday 8 May and you’ll automatically be entered into the draw to WIN a family holiday to the Cook Islands!*
Making a difference
Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk is so much more than just a great day of fun and entertainment — it’s a walk for the mothers and babies cared for at Mater; it’s a walk to save lives. Supporting Mater through this event will help the more than 2,000 seriously ill and premature babies who are cared for in Mater’s Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) each year.
Your support will also help expectant mothers as the funds raised will also be put towards the planned build of Australia’s first 24/7 Pregnancy Assessment Centre at Mater. The centre will be available to any woman that needs help, from day one of their pregnancy to six weeks after their baby is born. With 1 in 4 expecting mothers experiencing complications in early pregnancy, this service will make a real difference to the lives of many mothers and babies in our community. Simply by signing up for the Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk, you can be part of this special project coming to life.
One such baby was little miracle, Parker Callard. He was born almost three months early, weighing just 1.69 kilograms. But, thanks to the generous support of people like you, baby Parker was cared for at Mater’s NCCU, and after three long months, he was able to finally go home to his loving family. You can read all about Parker’s fight for survival and other Mater Little Miracles here, to see exactly how your support helps babies and families in your community.
