With the cooler yet gloriously sunny days of winter upon us, there’s never been a better time for Brisbane families to get outdoors and get active.
If you’re stuck for ideas, the Brisbane City Council’s Active and Healthy Program has activities for all ages and fitness levels at many local parks and other venues across Brisbane.
They are also offering low cost activities to keep the kids busy and active over the school holidays, with everything from circus skills workshops to skateboarding clinics.
Refresh your exercise routine
To stay motivated with exercise, it’s important to keep your routine fresh and fun. Council is dedicated to creating an active, healthy city that delivers a range of programs to help encourage the community to make healthy lifestyle choices and improve their general health and fitness.
Council’s Active and Healthy Program offers a series of group classes suitable for everyone, from beginners to those with higher fitness abilities, with classes including Tai Chi, Pilates, stand-up paddle boarding, skate skills clinics, indoor rock climbing and abseiling, boxing and mums and bubs fitness.
Residents can also easily complement their activities with outdoor workouts at 110 parks in Brisbane with fitness equipment.
Get the kids active in the holidays
Council is encouraging kids to swap screen time for green time over the school holidays by getting outdoors and signing up for Council’s Chillout activities.
Chillout is one of Brisbane’s most popular youth programs with a great variety of free and low-cost recreation activities for young people aged up to 17 years.
If you’re looking for school holiday activities in Brisbane, Chillout offers more than 50 things to do, including skateboarding, water sports, rock climbing and abseiling.
As part of Council’s commitment to creating an inclusive city, all Chillout events allow free participation for anyone accompanying a person with a disability who requires support.
Programs like Chillout contribute to creating an exciting cultural city for young people and a place that offers a range of recreational opportunities in a variety of open spaces.
Bookings are essential for most Chillout activities, which include:
- Dance workshops
- Fitness and boxing classes, cooking workshops and fishing
- Circus skills workshops, putt putt golf and ball games
- Eco-arts workshops
- Photography and lantern making
Active and healthy options for all ages and abilities
In addition to the Chillout program for young people, Council’s Active and Healthy Program includes:
