Whale Watching Bus Safari

The Whale Watching Bus Safari takes you along the coastline from Tangalooma Island Resort to Cape Moreton in search of Humpback Whales. Operating from June to October annually, the tour makes the most of the panoramic views experienced from the cliffs to observe the yearly migration of the whales along the east coast of Australia. Running for around 4 hours, the tour costs $99 for children and $110 for adults.

Sand tobogganing at Tangalooma

Desert Safari Tour & Sand Tobogganing

The Desert Safari Tour at Tangalooma is a budget friendly must-do for all visitors. Priced at $32 for children and $49 for adults, this 1 ½ hour tour takes you on a short trip through the bush to the 100 acre Tangalooma Desert, where you can climb one of the highest sand dunes and toboggan back down. Whether you are game enough to attempt the sand tobogganing component of the tour or not, a visit to the Tangalooma Desert is a valuable and educational experience. Of course, the sand tobogganing is a major drawcard, with dare-devils reaching speeds of up to 40km per hour on their descent before repeatedly going back for more! 4WD Northern Safari Tour

The 4WD Northern Safari Tour takes visitors up to the northern point of Moreton Island (Cape Moreton), then back along the east coast. The stunning scenery experienced along the way is simply breathtaking, with several stops made to hop out and explore. A camera is a must on this tour, where you may spot whales (depending on the time of year) and huge green turtles off the coast. Priced at $70 for children and $110 for adults, the Northern Safari Tour runs for around 4 hours and includes morning or afternoon tea.

ATV Quad Bikes at Tangalooma Island Resort

ATV Quad Bike Tour

ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) Quad Bikes are the ultimate way to explore the sand dunes! You can choose from either a single bike for one rider, or a tandem bike to double another person or child on the back. Including a safety briefing, the tour runs for around 45 minutes and takes you into the soft sand dunes behind Tangalooma Island Resort—offering incredible views out to Moreton Bay. Priced at $80 for a single, and $60 per person for a tandem, quad bikes can be operated independently by anyone over the age of 12 years, with 10 and 11 year olds able to operate with a guardian doubling on a tandem ATV. Children under 10 years can accompany an adult on a tandem ATV, so long as the adult operating holds a valid driver’s license and signs a waiver. Long pants and enclosed footwear are strongly recommended.

4WD Car Hire

Even if you don’t have your own 4WD or haven’t brought it across on the barge, you can still explore Moreton Island for yourselves. 4WD hire is available from Tangalooma Island Resort from $380 per day. This allows free use of a 6-seater Land Cruiser from 8am until 5pm. A bond amount is required, and fuel is additional.

Segway Tours

Check out the beaches on a fun, self-balancing Segway! Choose from either a 25 minute introductory lesson, or extend the enjoyment with a 45 minute scenic tour. Cost ranges from $55 for the intro lesson, to $99 for the scenic tour.

Tangalooma Island Resort hires bikes with large ‘spider’ tyres—perfect for beach riding—for one hour ($30) or two hour ($50) periods. See more of the beach with these fun bikes and give your walking feet a rest. Helmets are included in the cost of hire and a deposit is required.

Guided Walks & Presentations

The Eco-Rangers at Tangalooma Island Resort can provide a wealth of information on the environment of the area, as well as the surrounding wildlife population. The ‘What’s On’ guide provided at check-in details the schedule for free organised walks and presentations around the resort, including the ‘Discover the World of Dolphins’ presentation and fish, dolphin, pelican and kookaburra feeding.
