Indro Island Adventure Course | Indooroopilly Shopping Centre

These school holidays, the team at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre have got you covered with the creation of their FREE Indro Island adventure course for kids aged 5-12 years old.  Our team from Brisbane Kids went to check it out ourselves and here is what you can expect to find.

Indro Island – What is it?

Adventure course indooroopilly

Found in Centre Court on level 1 of the shopping centre, Indro Island is a small, timed, four-obstacle course that is designed to excite and challenge adventure-driven kids.  Lined with bamboo lanterns and carved rock characters, the arena has a definite Survivor-like feel, with children (or “challengers”) competing in small groups against the clock and each other.

The course starts out with each challenger being seated on one of six tree stumps that have been set out in a semi-circle in front of a screen. Here, they give the organiser their name and watch a quick video that outlines the course and what they need to do to win.  Once prepared, the screen announces “Good Luck Challengers” and the group take up their positions at the start of the course.

The Course Obstacles

In order to win, the challengers need to race through the obstacle course in the fastest time possible, hitting their allocated buzzer the minute they complete the final challenge.  This includes scaling and going over a small climbing wall first.  They then need to drop to their tummies and wiggle their way beneath a long rope corridor before lining up and throwing two small bean bags into a designated hole.  The final part of the course requires them to complete a 25 piece puzzle so that it resembles the Indro Island logo.  The first one to complete the puzzle hits the buzzer and wins! There is a list of the final times of each challenger coming up on a screen at the end for all to see.

Bandana fun – for the little ones too

Although the winner of each race is awarded a bandana, any child that comes along on the day, regardless of age, can grab one as well.  Set up at the front of the course is a small crafting section, complete with tables and chairs, colour-in pens and some colour-in pages too.  Here, kids can have fun adding their own unique colours and design to their bandana, to be taken home or worn during their next race.

Overall Comments

If you need to get some shopping done these holidays with kids in tow, then it is worth choosing Indooroopilly Shopping Centre as your destination.  Indro Island was a huge hit with all three of my kids (aged 5, 7 and 10) and obviously to the many others that continued to line up for a second go.  The course size makes it easy for parents to sit back and relax while the kids’ race through it and even the smallest family member will have fun at the bandana craft table.
