Gymnastics and Circus Classes
From active toddlers to aspiring Olympic gymnasts, Cheer, Gymnastics and Circus classes in Brisbane are a great way to keep your Brisbane Kids active and to burn off some bouncing energy. Tumble classes can commence when your child is just a baby, and can continue through the pre-school years to encourage both physical and social development in a safe and friendly environment. Many of these sessions include music and song as well – providing an all-encompassing, fun activity for carers and children to participate in together each week.
From pre-school age, children can move into more structured gymnastics, circus or cheer training, progressing through the stages of skill development in the sport, and building towards assessed levels and formal competitions against other children. Many more casual classes are offered if your child does not wish to take part in the more competitive aspects of the sport – it’s just a matter of speaking to your local club and getting a feel for whether your needs will be catered to.
Health benefits of Gymnastics and Circus Classes
Discipline is key in an ongoing commitment to cheer, gymnastics and circus training. Children must be prepared to train on a weekly basis (often several times per week, especially as they get older and progress through the levels). By making this commitment, children learn discipline skills that are beneficial throughout their education and development outside of the sport.
Flexibility and co-ordination develop with practice and guidance from a professional. Repetition of movement increases flexibility, and practice makes perfect when it comes to co-ordination. With flexibility and co-ordination gymnasts can control their bodies, and demonstrate a higher ability to avoid potential injury.
Like all group activities, gymnastics and circus classes promote the development of social skills and often involve teamwork which also helps develop negotiating methods. Respect for others is also learned, with more experienced gymnasts responsible for setting the example for younger students.
Increased self esteem and confidence develops in a supportive environment. Finding an encouraging coach is vital for this very reason. With support and encouragement as new skills are learnt, children develop a sense of achievement which in turn leads to higher confidence and self-respect. This carries over to everyday life to create an increase in positive social interactions and problem solving.
