With food, fun and festivities, Great Australian Bites is a yummy and exciting food and music festival for the Australia Day long weekend! Held in four locations across the state, Great Australian Bites is set to bring Queensland communities together to celebrate Australia Day with beautiful, locally prepared Queensland produce, plus music and entertainment from talented local artists.
Great Australian Bites highlights
Great Australian Bites is a highlight of the Queensland Australia Day events program, supported by the Queensland Government in partnership with the National Australia Day Council and delivered in partnership with Brisbane Marketing, Whitsunday Regional Council, Longreach Regional Council and Douglas Shire Council.
The 2017 Great Australian Bites festival of foodie fun will take place at four Queensland locations across the state. The events are FREE to attend and will showcase a fantastic program of live music and entertainment, with delicious tasting plates and refreshments from local restaurants available to purchase. Visitors will get to taste the delectable local produce while chilling out to the summer beat in some pretty spectacular locations.
Locations for Great Australian Bites
The 2017 Great Australian Bites will take place in Brisbane, Airlie Beach, Port Douglas and Longreach.
Location: River Quay, South Bank
Days: Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th January
With the beautiful setting right next to the Brisbane River, Brisbane’s Great Australian Bites will feature the best of Queensland produce from local restaurants with a range of tasting plates, picnic baskets and drinks from pop-up food stalls.
There will also be a full program of live entertainment for visitors to enjoy, including performances from Phil Jamieson, Dan Kelly, Halfway and more!
This location is also a spectacular vantage point from which to view the amazing Australia Day fireworks on Thursday 26th January from 7.30 pm.

This will be the second Great Australian Bites festival in Port Douglas and it is set to be better than ever this year.
Visitors will be able to kick back and relax while listening to the sounds of home-grown talent, while tasting a variety of delicious treats prepared by local chefs.

Longreach locals and visitors are being treated to their first chance to experience their very own Great Australian Bites festival!
The Longreach Racecourse will be transformed into a fantastic mini-festival, complete with market stalls offering awesome tasting plates, as well as a live music program, garden games and also a cooling station visitors can keep cool while enjoying the fun and festivities!
