Unleash your creativity this Autumn with performing arts classes for grades 3–12 presented by the National Institute of Dramatic Art.

From 6–18 April 2021, NIDA Open will be running some of its most popular short courses at St Laurence’s College in Brisbane.

Discover your inner actor, venture into new worlds, sharpen your creative skills or learn something completely new!

Led by NIDA’s expert team of teaching artists, these courses give students the chance to build confidence and develop skills in an engaging and supportive learning environment, all while socialising and having fun.

Acting Boot Camp

For grades 3–6, 7–10 and 11–12, NIDA’s Acting Boot Camp is a fast-paced weekend intensive course for acting recruits looking to build skills in improvisation, character and scenework.

NIDA Drama School

For grades 3–6 and 7–10, NIDA Drama School is a comprehensive course for committed young people. Develop performance skills including improvisation, voice and movement devising, acting and rehearsing scenes.

Stage and Screen School

For grades 3–6 and 7–10, Stage and Screen School invites students to spend a week exploring performance for both stage and screen. Develop skills in improvisation, text analysis and script work then apply these skills to an on-screen performance. This course includes a session on auditions and screen tests.

Auditions and Screen Tests

For grades 3–6 and 7–10, Auditions and Screen Tests teaches students to become confident in how to present to a theatre or screen director and practice auditions for theatre, film and TV. Students participate in a ‘mock audition’, receive constructive feedback on their audition preparation and technique. At the end of the course, they will share performance skills and newfound audition confidence in a short presentation for family and friends.

Directing 101

For grades 11–12, learn the skills to create and direct a theatre production. Discover how to develop a concept or idea, work effectively with a creative team and collaborate with actors to ensure your vision is realised.

Hitting your mark: Screen Acting

For grades 11–12. Whether you’re in Home & Away or The Avengers, one of the most important skills is being able to ‘hit your mark’. It can also be the hardest to master. Develop the technical ability to be on target, scene after scene, with this intensive screen workshop. Explore working with scripts from television and film, acting in high stakes situations while maintaining the ability to master positions and props with precision.

NIDA Actors Project
