PCYC Queensland’s Little n Active Program

Boy on trapeze with instructor assisting at PCYC

PCYC Queensland recently launched their exclusive Little n Active program for children under 5 years, designed to develop children’s physical literacy through active and creative play and build a positive foundation for all sports.

Children participate in 45-minute classes developed for specific ages and developmental stages with their special grown-up, and together they explore fun themed environments filled with developmentally-appropriate movement activities. In addition to physical activities, Little n Active classes promote curiosity, encourage problem-solving, increase comprehension and develop social skills.

The program is designed to build confidence in physical ability and provide positive first steps to an active and healthy future, and parental interaction is key!

What do the classes involve?

Little n Active leaders deliver 45-minute classes composed of a welcome and open exploration, group time, guided adventure and farewell. Classes are based on different themes and activities, such as Teddy Bears, Zoo, Dinosaurs, Transport and Santa’s Workshop, and as the themes change every fortnight, the program is always engaging.

What are the class names and age groups?

Little Munchkins: 18 months to 2.5 years

Little Munchkins classes are for confident walkers who are keen to explore the world with their bodies. They are learning to run and jump and they like to play alone or alongside other children and imitate and respond to simple directions.

Little Sprouts: 2.5 to 4 years

Little Sprouts classes are designed for children who can run and jump confidently. They are learning to hop, jump down from low heights, kick on the move and balance along a narrow beam and are starting to play with other children, can share (with a little help) and enjoy dramatic play.

Little Tykes: 4 to 5 years

Little Tykes classes are designed for children who are becoming independent and can confidently separate from their grown-up. These classes help children learn to listen, follow instructions, co-operate with others and the activities are more challenging.

Little Sibs: 18 months to 5 years

Little Sibs classes are designed for families where one grown-up attends with two siblings under five. The class content includes a variety of activities that cater for different developmental stages and allows for reduced adult assistance.

Why get involved?

The Little n Active program offers children aged 5 and under, and their parents or carers, a fun, creative and purposefully designed program to develop physical, emotional and social literacy. The classes are led by qualified instructors, are held in safe and welcoming PCYC clubs and encourage connection and bonding between children and parents through fun and active play.
