Mobile Child Psychology Brisbane with Changes Psychology
Changes Psychology is a team of child psychologists who saw the need for a mobile child psychology and family psychology service on Brisbane Northside and Ipswich to support children from birth to teens and their families in the places where they want to make changes – their home, school or child care centres. They endeavour to offer appointment times that work around other family commitments and enable both parents to be involved, with a team of 7 psychologists that support families across the Brisbane and Ipswich areas.
Every child and family is different, so Changes Psychology will work with you and your child to create a personalised treatment plan made up of therapies and strategies based on your family’s values, personalities, needs and priorities.
How Can Changes Child Psychology Brisbane Help?
Changes Psychology promote a “no problem too big or small” attitude to helping busy families manage issues that are causing them distress or preventing progress. There doesn’t have to be a crisis or disorder present to benefit from seeing a child psychologist through Changes Psychology, as early intervention can save families a lot of distress, time and money in the long-run. Sometimes a couple of sessions can be all a family needs to develop their awareness of the issues involved, develop some new skills and make some profound changes.
Mobile Psychology Services
The team at Changes Psychology believe in supporting children and family members in the environment where the issues are occurring (their home, school or childcare centre), rather than in a clinic room or doctor’s surgery. Children and adults are more comfortable, relaxed and open in their own environment, and in-home (school and childcare based) therapy – where skills are taught and modelled in the rooms of the house where they will be implemented – can be more practical and solution focused, as families are not learning skills in another environment (eg. a clinic room) and trying to work out for themselves how to apply it in the home. The psychologists at Changes Psychology are therefore able to provide more suggestions for making changes to the home environment, as they see it first-hand (where strategies are implemented in a house can affect their effectiveness).
Changes Psychology supports family members to make practical changes through the use of education, skill building and developing strengths – they don’t focus on labelling or costly assessments when they aren’t necessary. They aim to develop skills that promote more functional, peaceful and nurturing households, and focus on helping the family unit as a whole, as well as individual family members. Many other psychologists prefer to orientate therapy towards helping an individual/s, rather than working on changing factors that impact on the whole family dynamic.
For example, although toddler tantrums are considered ‘age-appropriate’ behaviours in young children, they can cause great distress for all family members and impact on relationships. Changes can work collaboratively with families who have toddlers (2-5 year olds) to:
1) Identify any underlying causes or factors contributing to tantrums or challenging behaviours
2) Work with the family to develop a variety of personalised strategies to help manage behaviours and cope in different situations and environments
3) Develop child and parent resilience and emotional regulation skills
