Museum of Brisbane (MoB) is located on the rooftop of the iconic City Hall in Brisbane’s CBD. It is a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and discover our city’s truly vibrant art, culture and history, brought to life through its FREE exhibitions, workshops, tours, talks and MoB Kids children’s activities.

The Museum has five galleries, a theatrette, and a Dome Lounge, in which visitors can learn all about the amazing people, places and stories of historic and contemporary Brisbane. Museum of Brisbane is part of the living history of Brisbane, and kids and adults alike can discover their own place in this story through learning about how Brisbane and the local people change over time and how each of our unique and collective experiences shape our identity.

MoB Kids School Holiday Program

Museum of Brisbane offers a fantastic school holiday program that kids love. What is more, most of the awesome activities on offer are FREE or low cost!

The school holiday program is customised every school holidays so that it relates to the museum’s rotating exhibition program themes, meaning there is something new every school holidays! This makes the experience new and exciting for kids every single time.

The school holiday program for MoB kids offers fun arts activities and great hands-on workshops that are run by professional local artists and educators and foster a passion for creativity in kids. The program always consists of free or low cost activities right through to budding artist programs with Brisbane artists and designers. There is range of programs available, with something for every age group to enjoy, from 5 –15 year olds, as well as under 4s.

With so much on offer, it is easy to see why so many families become regular MoB school holiday visitors.

On top of the museum exhibits and features and the kids activities on offer, Museum of Brisbane also has several unique and exciting activities that kids will love. There is a FREE City Hall heritage guided tour, in which you can discover the interesting history of the 90-year-old building. Or you can take a ride in the original hand-operated lift, and give your kids the rare chance of traveling up the Clock Tower and getting a very different view of the city! Plus on Friday nights, there are now extended opening hours till 7pm, offering you and your kids the chance to take part in the really exciting after dark Clock Tower tours, as well as enjoy craft workshops and the museum’s latest exhibitions. That is definitely something worth pushing back bedtime for!

Visiting Museum of Brisbane

Location: Museum of Brisbane is located on level 3, City Hall, King George Square. To enter, go in through the King George Square foyer of City Hall, turn right and take the lift to Level 3.

Opening hours: Open 7 days a week, 10am – 5pm (7pm Fridays); 10am – 5pm public holidays, 1pm – 5pm Anzac Day (closed Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day)

Wheelchair access is available throughout Museum of Brisbane and City Hall but not for the Clock Tower. Please call the museum on 07 3339 0800 for more information or to make arrangements before you go.

Also in Museum of Brisbane is the MoB Shop, featuring the works of Brisbane’s artists, designers and chefs. There, you can find a bespoke selection of jewellery, fashion accessories, homewares, design objects, books, artworks and gourmet food products.

For refreshments, two cafes are located within City Hall: The Shingle Inn (ground floor) and Red Cross Cafe (basement level). There are also countless coffee shops and restaurants close by around the city centre.
