Two happy girls doing crafts in the park

Finding things to do during these school holidays doesn’t have to be a challenge, Kids Collective at Roma Street Parkland in Brisbane have done all of the hard work for you!

From 9am-1pm, Thursday-Saturday these school holidays, the parkland will be buzzing with free activities for kids aged 5-12 years old.

With two different activities to choose from each day, there’s something for everyone! Burn some energy during a fun soccer class, learn to make and fly your own leaf kite, and enjoy music and drama play plus more!

All activities are run by qualified instructors and bookings are not required. Not sure what time you’ll make it? Don’t stress as classes are re-set at regular intervals, so you can come and go as you please.

Upcoming activities:

Thursday 26 September

Interactive art: Spring Sun Catcher at Children’s Garden Lawn

In this instalment of Kids Collective children will have the opportunity to get creative, constructing a sun catcher using an array of colourful floral petals and leaves. At home the sun catcher can be strung together for a mobile effect or placed against a window pane so light cascades through. Engaging and interactive crafts are proven to assist in children’s development and learning as well as their gross and fine motor skills, co-ordination, concentration and creative thinking.

Soccer Play at Celebration Lawn

During this active set of games, kids are shown the basics of soccer in a fun and friendly setting. Attendees will learn kicking, catching, running techniques, as well as coordination skills, and the importance of teamwork.

Friday 27 September

Interactive play at Children’s Garden Lawn

Throughout this fun and energetic session children will take part in interactive drama games as well as engage in physical activities to stretch the body and the imagination. As well, there will be a scavenger hunt in the beautiful surroundings of Roma Street Parkland.

Musical Play at The Amphitheatre Stage

Red Rocket 3 (RR3) is a three piece live band for kids. RR3’s high-energy shows engage kids through music and theatre, with crazy sing-alongs, silly dress ups, zany lyrics, improvised antics and interactive games.

Saturday 28 September

Fun with Kites at Celebration Lawn

Can you make a leaf fly? Yes you can! In this sustainable and educational kite-making activity, children will have the opportunity to decorate and fly an original Leaf Kite, under the guidance of international kite maker Tony Rice and Tamsin Scott from Earth Play.

Interactive Play at Children’s Garden Lawn

Using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), Flying Fox Studios has created an “engineering challenge” using a range of construction and building materials designed to develop children in these areas. Materials will include Lego, Duplo, K’nex, Quadrilla, LittleBits, Fischertechnik, IQ Key, Snap Circuits, Plus Plus, Goldieblox and Magformers, as well as a wide variety of everyday resources.
