A Kindy Day

Banks Street Community Kindy, Newmarket knidergarten

Banks Street Newmarket Kindy is a single unit centre with 2 groups, each with up to 22 children. Bees Group attends Monday – Wednesday, 8.30am to 2.30pm, and Butterflies Group attends Thursday – Friday, 8.30am to 4:00pm during School terms.

Each day, the teacher and assistant educator provide a flexible routine, encouraging children to initiate play, take responsibility for their activities, and to express themselves to their peers. Focus is placed on developing gross and fine motor skills, sensory development, literacy and numeracy – to assist with transition into Prep.

A lot of enjoyment and learning is had in the process: exploring the veggie patch; decorating the outdoor ‘secret space’; visiting the native bees; cooking in the mud kitchen – and the real kitchen; constructing in the sand pit; dressing up for a performance on the stage; sharing a story, song and dance; even yoga on the mat inside. Group times include opportunities for sharing ideas, making plans and recalling discussions. Quiet time is encouraged to reflect and relax.

The excitement of the day is captured in photos, videos and diaries all shared securely online with Story Park, a platform that keeps families and carers updated on their child’s development.

Art Program

Banks Street Newmarket Kindy is privileged to have a dedicated Artist visit fortnightly. The children explore colour, line, drawing and painting. In each session, various mediums are used to observe, plan, connect and create. Children use the Art Program to express and articulate their thoughts, both verbally and through creation.

The highlight of the Kindy year is the Annual Art Evening where parents and friends view the incredible collaboration by the children. The children showcase their work as Little Artists and it is awe-inspiring to see the children’s art journey.
