Fun hatching at Queensland Museum South Bank these holidays

Queensland Museum South Bank is encouraging visitors to explore the treasures that eggs hold during the April school holidays from 11 to 19 April 2009.

Director of Queensland Museum South Bank Sally Lewis said the Hatchlings school holiday program provides an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the vast range of animals that hatch out of eggs – from the tiniest insect to the largest dinosaur.

An Egg Hunt Trail will send children to all the Museum’s galleries in search of a variety of egg born animals which are incorporated in the entertaining exhibitions.

“Visitors will discover turtle eggs in the Martine Reptiles exhibition and emu eggs in Dandiiri Maiwar, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures Centre,” Ms Lewis said.

“Hands-on creative activities will be offered in the Hatching Activity Zone with memory matching card games and egg stories along with a selection of special eggs on show from the Museum’s collection.

“Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet, touch and feel live egg-laying animals including a python and a baby crocodile.”

The award-winning Australian animated film Happy Feet will screen daily – a lively story of a penguin that hatches out of an egg in Antarctica and although he can’t dance, he can sing.

Queensland Museum South Bank is located on the corner of Grey and Melbourne Streets, South Bank. The Museum is open daily from 9:30am to 5:00pm (closed Christmas Day and Good Friday, open Anzac Day from 1:30pm).

For more information on the Hatchlings at Queensland Museum South Bank visit www.southbank.qm.qld.gov.au or telephone 3840 7555.
