How to make a Fairy Snow globe

Snow globes have stirred the imaginations of adults and children alike for generations.  And with good reason.  The slowly swaying particles of glitter have a hypnotic effect as we ponder the perfect world they are covering in their soft, magically glittering blanket.  And they’re so easy to make!

In our house, fairies hide in our garden, still give money for lost teeth and are the subject of many books read and artwork created … so a fairy theme for our snow globe was non-negotiable.  But you could work to any theme that your child desires… from an underwater scene, to mermaids or even cars.

 Materials for the fairy snow globe we made:

• A small fairy garden statue
• A jar – we used a standard glass jar but an acrylic/glass airtight seal and clamp jar would work well too
• All purpose waterproof glue
• Glycerol (you can buy it from the pharmacy)
• Glitter and small flower sequins
• Butterfly stickers

How to make the fairy snow globe:

• Glue the fairy statue to the inside of the jar lid.  Wait 24hrs for the glue to dry.
• Fill the jar with water and add a few drops of glycerol.  Glycerol is not essential but it makes the glitter fall more slowly.
• Add about a teaspoon of glitter to the water along with a few flower sequins.
• Place the lid back onto the jar and use sealant or waterproof glue to seal.  Wait 24hrs for the glue to dry.
• Once dry, place a few butterfly stickers on the lid or around the top of the jar.  We used glittery, semi-transparent stickers.
