Pizza Base Recipe for Brisbane Kids

Thanks to our guest blogger Home Made Mumma. You can check her blog out at http://homemademumma.blogspot.com/. Many of her activities are pizza for brisbane kidsinspired by the Montessori method and use items we already have around the house or are very inexpensive.

Pizza dough is incredibly cheap to make and even very young kids can have a great time topping their own mini pizzas.  We often use left overs, stray half sliced vegies or homegrown herbs and vegies as toppings.  My dough recipe is below, but you could also use English muffins, tortillas or slices of bread as a base too.

Pizza Dough

1 sachet of yeast

¾ cup warm water

2 cups plain flour

2 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp olive oil

Empty yeast into warm water in a large glass.  Leave for 20 minutes in a warm spot.

Preheat oven to 220°C. Combine dry ingredients and oil, add frothy yeast water and mix until dough comes together.  Turn out and knead then place back in bowl, cover and stand in a warm spot for 20 minutes until doubled in size.

Divide into two for full size pizzas or into more portions for individual mini pizzas.  Roll out, prick all over with a fork then top with pizza sauce, a little cheese and preferred topping.  Bake for 15 minutes.

Perfect Pizza on its Way!
