Walkabout Creek, The Gap

Walkabout Creek, The Gap is the perfect excuse to get out of the house with your Brisbane Kid.

Walkabout Creek, The Gap is a nature reserve only 12kms from the heart of the city where you can explore subtropical rainforest, gorges, eucalypt woodland and the wildlife that comes with such a natural treasure. Your Brisbane Kids can spend their time searching for the gliders, owls, crayfish, bandicoots, frogs and bowerbirds are just a few of the residents you could hope to come across in your travels.
Similar to Daisy Koala Park, Walkabout Creek, The Gap offer different programs depending on the time of year including the very popular night walks. You will also find weekend workshops are fairly common with wildlife shows and holiday programs. The smallest circuit at Walkabout Creek, The Gap is 1.5 kms long, so maybe a little long for a toddler but perfect for a child. They have a cafe that is open from 9am- 2pm each day. It really is a lovely outlook, nice and leafy, perfect for a morning excursion with the kids. 60 Mt Nebo Rd. The Gap, Brisbane. Walkabout Creek, The Gap (Brisbane Forest Park) – Mt Nebo Rd The Gap

Walkabout Creek The Gap was our next turn at a bushwalk as I had heard it was reasonably flat for most of the walk, though there did turn out to be a few steep hills along the way but nothing we struggled with, and there was a range of wildlife to see along the way. We first travelled the “Corymbia Circuit” before doing the “Araucaria” Track which is about 5km in a round trip. The track follows the shoreline of Enoggera Reservoir and along the way we saw a few birds, ducks and a snake (which ran away quicker then we did). It was a pleasant walk that took about 2 hours to complete. At the end of the circuit when we returned to the Walkabout Creek Centre we visited their Wildlife Centre (Cost for a family entry was around $20) which had many interesting animals such as snakes, dragons, goannas, lungfish, platypus, marsupials and a walk through aviary with many birds. Walkabout Creek, The Gap also have a great cafe there or plenty of spots to have a picnic and spend a good portion of the day.
