Downfall Creek The Fun
Also known as the Raven Street Reserve.
The playground is a traditional fort style playground and is more suited to older kids. That said, we did visit with a 23 month old who had a fabulous time but it was needing to be heavily supervised and guided by an adult due to the height of the fort. The ultimate in adventure playground for older children.
We easily found a park on a school holiday day, most of them are also shaded which is a bonus. There are a couple of walking tracks, one of which is a sensis trail. See Brisbane City Council website for more information on the walking tracks. The walks (though probably not designed this way) are suited to the kids bringing their bikes and scooters as we found on the day we were there. Take a self-guided walk (wheelchair accessible) around the Mountains to Mangroves’ senses trail for all ages and abilities featuring a continuous handrail, interpretive signage with braille and raised text. An audio guide is also available from the centre – photo ID required or a $20 deposit. Along the walk there are signs with numbers (winner with our Brisbane Kids) and information stands with interesting information and questions to share with your Brisbane Kids. The smaller trail took about 5 or so minutes for my little 23 month old to bumble along- on total with stopping and questioning and counting the numbers we did it in about 10. It is a circuit so it takes you back to the centre. The Downfall Creek bushland centre is open 5 days a week and has some fish tanks with native fish, brochures, some interesting information throughout and presents a nice opportunity to educate and discuss topics with your Brisbane Kid.
Imagination Factor
When I was at school I remember walking this track talking about all the lovely birds we could hear. This is a wonderful place to go to give kids a snap shot of the bush- great for toddlers. There are 115 possible bird species.
Special Needs Consideration
The trail is wheelchair accessible and there are disabled toilet facilities. The playground is not suited to children with any form of motor difficulty.
